Definition | Skimboarding is a sport which involves riding a board on wet sand or shallow water. Skimboarding is based primarily on the principle of hydroplaning, hence skimboards are smaller and thinner than surfboards, since they do not require as much buoyancy.
Cody Denoon (on the left), introduced me to skimboarding when we were kids, much before the beaches of whiterock, spanish banks, and jericho were jam packed with young eager skimboarders. It is one of my favourite ocean activities and I have been known to attempt skimboarding in all seasons of the year. Unfortunatly I have moved to Calgary for my Undergraduate and I do not get to spend a whole lot of time skimboarding. The picture above is of Cody, Jordan and I on August 26th 2006 at Spanish Banks. You can tell Cody and Jordan do a lot more skimboarding than I do simply by noticing that I look completely pale beside both of them. Spanish Banks is one of my favourite spots in the world, you can see downtown Vancouver in the background. To see some sweet skimboarding skills, click here!
I have had my skimboard for a long long time, her name is Betty. I can't exactly remember why I named it Betty, nevertheless, the name stands. It is a 'Four Skims' board, which I understand is a now very popular local skimboard producer. I bought it at Rad Brad's on White Rock beach and at the time, it cost a fortune.
